History of Higher Ground Adventures
Our Story
The story of Higher Ground Adventures began more than two decades ago. From humble beginnings, Higher Ground, as it was known then, spent its first summer at Campbell University. The following year, camp moved to Lookout Lodge, South Carolina where it remained for several more years. However, Higher Ground truly came into its own when it relocated to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, where it remained for over a decade, sharing the Gospel and touching the lives of hundreds of campers. When the state closed the historic Swannanoa 4-H Center in 2015, camp was without a home and at a crossroads. For the next five years, we held camp at Camp Wesley Woods, Tennessee. In 2020, Higher Ground became Higher Ground Adventures, a camp for older youth, focused on growing closer to Christ and one another through adventures on and off site. This new chapter in our history brought us back home to beautiful Swannanoa, which had been purchased and wonderfully preserved by the Black Mountain Home for Children. Since our return to Swannanoa, Higher Ground Adventures continues to thrive, passing on the joy of summer camp and the love of God to the next generation.
